A Four Pillar Design
Interdepartmental Multidimensional Collaborative Teams:
Leadership will identify members from all student support services to meet and collaborate on student care decisions. By delegating decision tasks to a collaborative team, student support decisions can be implemented in a cohesive manner that reduces the fragmentation of service implementation. Collaborative teams can view and discuss students holistically and create care plans to support the whole learner.
Coordinated Holistic Data-Driven Decision-Making:
Coordination of data to be housed holistically in a single location will give care teams the ability to view multidimensional data as a comprehensive measure of student need. Holistic data can better inform team decisions for care allocation. Data housing will be centralized and coordinated to facilitate holistic viewing and decision-making.
Culturally Responsive Social-Emotional Learning Support:
Indigenous education is framed in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, and through the development of cultural identity. Student supports that affirm a students identity, and builds emotional capacity through Indigenous values has positive outcomes for student well-being. Culturally responsive SEL incorporates Indigenous lifeways and worldviews to support the learner in equitable and authentic ways.
Relational Health as Embedded Practice:
Indigenous ways of knowing are embedded in community and relationship. Story telling and mentorship anchor Indigenous knowledge-ways. Students who experience communal educational pathways demonstrate higher levels of well-being, increase attendance and engagement, and positive academic outcomes. The inclusion of relational practice is an essential component of culturally relevant education and student well-being.
